You play a kid from the Kanto region (the setting of the first Pokemon games, based on the southeast part of Japan including the Tokyo metropolitan area) who just moved to Alola and is getting ready to become a Pokemon trainer. Pokemon Sun/Moon takes place in the Alola region, an archipelago based on Hawaii, with four main islands. It's largely the same Pokemon we've seen for years, but the gym and badge system has gotten a complete island-themed overhaul and the combat animations look better than ever.
